Technical Meeting

Jim Spichiger, "Preventative Action - Identification, Process & Results." ISO 9001 not only requires organizations to eliminate the causes of potential nonconformities in order to prevent their occurrence but to document the procedure to insure that this occurs. However, many organizations struggle to effectively implement a method that will determine potential nonconformances. This presentation will discuss the approach one organization uses to identify preventive actions and the formal process they use to initiate, track and implement these actions. In addition, attendees will see how an actual preventive action was identified and how the resulting Quality Improvement Team utilized common problem solving tools to improve a specific process’s response time and effectiveness.

Mr. Spichiger has over twenty-five years experience in the quality profession as a manager, coach, engineer and auditor in the telecommunication, government, commercial, service and nuclear industries. He currently is employed as a Program Manager with Goodman Networks for Alcatel-Lucent. Mr. Spichiger has an engineering degree from Villanova University, is a licensed Professional Quality Engineer, holds seven ASQ Certifications and he is an ASQ Fellow. He has served as an examiner Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award and for the NJ Governor’s Award for Performance Excellence. Previously he served on the ASQ Board of Directors and the Executive Board of Quality New Jersey. Jim remains an active ASQ volunteer with the Inspection Division and is an instructor for the ASQ Columbus Section.
