CALIBRATION: What Is It and Why Is It Important?

Description

This is an introductory seminar which looks at the concepts and issues that comprise a world class calibrations system.

The seminar begins with a definition of the terms that are commonly used in the industry, thus establishing a common point of reference and demystifying the jargon that is encountered on a day-to-day basis.

We will examine the requirements and differences of the industry standards and their impact on the calibration system.

Starting with the Quality Manual, the cornerstone of any quality system, we will investigate some of the ongoing decisions that every in-house calibration department must make, including:
  • Which gages/instruments need to be calibrated and which ones don't?

  • When should an outside calibration lab be used or an in-house capability developed?

  • What documentation needs to be maintained?

  • What are the critical elements when preparing for an audit?

Lastly, we explore computerized calibration management.
